About this deal
So, unfortunately, we have to conclude that once again Genesis can't bring an all-around satisfying release to the market.
We’ve also had the Archive Collection 1967-75 whose centerpiece was a live recording of a full Lamb Lies Down On Broadway show and the set from London’s Rainbow in 1973 included amongst some very early material. Tracks 6–8, 10-15 recorded live on 7 May 1980, and Track 9 recorded on 6 May 1980, during the Duke tour.
These collections represent the cream of the group’s work recorded by the BBC between 1970 and 1998, and it includes contributions from all three of the group’s vocalists, Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins and Ray Wilson. On the third CD we find a Domino motif (known from the tour program), but only the last two tracks on the CD are from Wembley 1987. The vinyl doesn’t have a booklet but rather offers the notes on the inner sleeves of the vinyl records.
For the 1992 Knebworth show, which took place on August 2, a ticket from the cancelled August 1 show is illustrated - this is a nice curiosity, to say the least. The new set has been curated by founding member Tony Banks and the group’s long-time engineer and producer Nick Davis and is the first time all of these tracks have been released on vinyl, and the first time a majority of the iconic 1987 Wembley show has been made available in an audio-only format. In any case, the recordings of the live concerts are relatively raw and of course do not shine with the glossy sound that you find on official live albums.
