About this deal
We at Penguin Random House Australia acknowledge that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are the Traditional Custodians and the first storytellers of the lands on which we live and work. When timid Jersey crab Armen (Michael Cera) meets bold tourist sea crab Ramona (Keke Palmer), it causes shell-shocking tension in the community. But when Piers chokes on board, the passengers must put their unspoken rules and preconceived assumptions aside.
The People on Platform 5 by Clare Pooley | Goodreads
It’s this wondrously uplifting sense of love and unconditional support that makes The People on Platform 5 such a poignantly touching and funny book to read. This book tackles so many interesting themes, all with Clare’s trademark humour, wonderful writing, and vibrant, loveable characters - Feel-good fiction at its best. The Authenticity Project, Clare's debut novel, was a BBC Radio 2 bookclub pick, a New York Times bestseller, the winner of the RNA debut novel award and a Babelio award.Clare Pooley graduated from Newnham College, Cambridge and spent twenty years in the heady world of advertising, where the line between authenticity and fiction is constantly blurred, before becoming a full-time mum. And while it's relatively well written and paced, the predictability of characters and plot are disappointing.
The People on Platform 5 by Clare Pooley | Waterstones
Rather cleverly too, the way in which these characters come together is not instantaneous; rather they take a while to let down their barriers, to actually come around to the idea that not saying “Hi” to a fellow commuter but becoming involved in their lives isn’t a bad thing, and it gives The People on Platform 5 an emotional heft and substance that makes the ending that follows feel well-deserved and truthful. She doesn't know their names, instead she creates nicknames for each of them based on her at-a-glance observations. If you are an inveterate reader, the odds are good, better than good actually, that fellow readers or close friends (sometimes, happily, they are both) that at some point they will recommend a book to you. This is my first encounter with Clare Pooley’s work but, based on this one, I have already added her previous novel, The Authenticity Project, to my wishlist. Clare Pooley graduated from Newnham College, Cambridge and spent twenty years in the heady world of advertising. I loved The Authenticity Project and couldn't wait to get my hands on this latest book from Clare Pooley, and what an absolute treat it is!
